March is another great month to look forward to as winter slowly leaves us and hints of spring are in the air. The budding trees and appearance of tulips are a fresh sight in the weeks to come. Speaking of growing, our students are at another stepping stone in education this month. March is the month that students in grades 3 through 8 will take the MontCas tests. This test is designed to measure the progress of our school district in regards to making the federal mandates of Annual Yearly Progress. In the past our students have done exceptionally well on these tests, but every year the expectation rises to a new level. At Canyon Creek we take testing very seriously and it shows in the results. Last year’s scores place Canyon Creek in the 93rd percentile in reading and 84th percentile in math. These are exceptional scores and reflect that the curriculum and methods teachers are using in our school are highly effective. We have a lot to be proud of!

March 8ththrough the 12th parents can help us with the testing process by assuring that your child is getting the proper rest and nutrition they need to be successful. It is very important that students are in attendance this week to assure they have the best opportunity to succeed. If your child is going to be absent, please give us proper notice so we can arrange for an alternate testing time. Thank you in advance for your help with this important event in our school.

Missoula Children’s Theatre is coming to Canyon Creek School the first week in March. I highly recommend that students participate in this production. This year the students will be performing a play called King Arthurs Quest. This is a great opportunity for all students to test their acting talents and take part in a great theatre production. I look forward to the showcase.

Take a moment to mark your calendars for Spring Conferences on April 7th and 8th. These conferences provide an opportunity for teachers and parents to discuss the academic gains of each child. We encourage all parents to meet with us during this time. More information will be coming in the weeks ahead.
